As if gagged by the material I choose to wrap my head with
You’re hell-bent on “saving” me,
Although I’m perfectly capable of wielding my own sword.
If I claim that I’m free, you just “tsk” sympathetically,
While wondering if I’ve developed a case of Stockholm’s Syndrome.
“She’s been brainwashed” they whisper
“Who’d choose to wear that thing on their own?”
To them, I’m ignorant.
Uneducated
Oppressed
Inhibited
Yet their brand of “freedom” is oppressive to me.
They promise to” give me my voice back”,
While simultaneously planning to snatch it away.
Because, I “don’t know better”
Because, my idea of freedom is “distorted”
Because, “they have my best interests at heart”
“Just sit back and let us do the liberating” they say.
Forced back into the silence they “rescued” me from.
“Mute” once more.
So pray tell me what freedom is.
You guys, its okay! Because I’m a woman, although I desire inequality for men and women, obviously I cannot be sexist. Because I’m female! I want women to be judged by a harsher standard! I want women to be reduced down to what men think of me sexually! Duh, you guys, stop oppressing me, and give me the freedom to practice internalized misogyny. O.M.G.
